About the Owner

Teresa Whitley has had a love affair with animals her entire life.   Raised on a farm in Eastern North Carolina, Teresa grew up around horses, cows, goats, chickens, dogs and cats.  As a child, she was always bringing home stray dogs, kittens, and baby birds to nurse back to health.

As an adult, Teresa's animal involvement has included:

• Obedience and agility training two Cairn terriers - one to an AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) title and to a UKC Agility Champion title.
• Second Chance Pet Adoptions Volunteer - Teresa has fostered and helped place numerous puppies.  Before she opened Furry Feet Retreat and began working 24/7, Teresa also served as the Medical Supply Coordinator, volunteered regularly as a Veterinary Assistant at their Spay/Neuter and wellness clinics, volunteered at adoptathons, and was a keyholder at the Second Chance Pet Adoptions facility.
• Owned and operated her own part-time pet-sitting business (in client's homes as well as in her own home).
• Worked as a Veterinary Assistant in numerous veterinary practices in the Triangle area and with Operation Catnip.

Teresa's current pack includes 2 Cairn Terriers (Katie and Sassi) and, a Second Chance Rescue dog, Frodo. Teresa also fosters several Second Chance Rescue dogs, many of whom have their very own web spot on this site under For Adoption.

Teresa had always wanted to combine her love of animals, her animal care experience, and her nurturing nature into a full-time career.  The opportunity to take over Pet Central and create Furry Feet Retreat of Cary became available and Teresa jumped at it.  The rest is history!  Teresa looks forward to making Furry Feet Retreat of Cary your pet care facility of choice!!
